2012 Illinois Exporter of the Year Award
Governor Pat Quinn today congratulated a dozen companies and organizations chosen to receive the 2013 Governor’s Export Awards for outstanding accom-plishments in the export of Illinois goods and services around the globe. “It’s important to recognize the contribution Illinois exporters are making to the economic health of our state,” Governor Quinn said. “Small and medium sized companies like those honored today play a vital role in creating millions of jobs and driving economic growth in Illinois.” Illinois is the largest exporting state in the Midwest and the fifth largest in the U.S. Exports from Illinois rose 5.1 percent to $68.1 billion in 2012 after soaring 30 percent in 2011. Direct exports account for nearly 10 percent of the Gross State Product. "Illinois is known around the world for its high-quality products and strong work ethic,” Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Director Adam Pollet said. “Finding new markets for Illinois products and services means more jobs at home.” Governor Quinn has worked hard to expand global trade partnerships, leading trade missions to China, Canada, Brazil and Mexico. The Illinois Office of Trade and Investment has also leveraged federal funds to assist hundreds of small to mid-sized companies gain access to fast-growing markets, raise the value of their export sales and fuel job growth at home. Governor Quinn established the Illinois Export Advisory Council to work to increase exports by providing high-level recommendations on state and federal policies and programs. The Council consists of 21 top Illinois CEOs and private sector leaders that drive international trade for Illinois.
